What Is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved purified protein that Dr. Willis will inject into targeted muscles in the face. This neurotoxin temporarily blocks nerve signals that cause muscle movements — essentially relaxing the muscle — which reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles.

Difference Between Fillers & Botox

While Botox relaxes the muscles in your face, dermal fillers work by filling in lines and wrinkles with a gel made of hyaluronic acid.

Botox is mainly used on wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements (like frowning or smiling), while fillers are extremely effective for treating wrinkles caused by loss of subcutaneous fat and muscle, sun damage, or gravity.

Botox is also more effective for the upper half of the face, while fillers are more effective for the lower half.

Why Botox at Willis Cosmetic Surgery

Most of our wrinkles are caused by years of repetitive muscle movement (such as frowning or raising our eyebrows).

By relaxing our facial muscles, Botox can reduce:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

It’s important to note that Botox can’t treat wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity. In cases where wrinkles aren’t caused by repetitive muscle movement, Dr. Willis might recommend a dermal filler instead.

What Results to Expect With Botox

When you get Botox injections, you can expect a noticeable reduction in facial lines and wrinkles that make you look older. Botox is most effective in treating dynamic wrinkles which are formed by repeated facial movements, such as frowning, smiling, or squinting. Here are specific results you can expect:

  • Smoother skin: Botox relaxes and temporarily paralyzes the muscles that contribute to wrinkles, resulting in smoother skin.
  • Fewer fine lines & wrinkles: Botox effectively reduces the appearance of lines on the forehead, crow's feet around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows.
  • Natural-looking corrections: When administered by a skilled professional like Dr. Willis, Botox should not alter your natural facial expressions. The results are subtle yet noticeable, providing a refreshed and more youthful appearance.
  • Long-lasting results: Botox's effects typically last three to six months. After this period, muscle action gradually returns, and lines and wrinkles begin to reappear. Repeated treatments with Dr. Willis can lead to longer-lasting effects and potentially less frequent applications over time.
